>>5945594>If you're going to use shading , you have to use it consistently. Where's the source of light?Yes, I’m not very good at this, at figuring out where the light should come from and how it will affect all the surfaces, and I’m having trouble figuring that out. I need to get better at it.
>Are the roses not affected? Yikes! I don’t know why I didn’t think of the when I was painting but you’re right! They look so flat! Damn. Something else to pay attention to next time.
>streak at far left mid is distracting. Yes that was an accident, I accidentally fumbled my brush into my water cup and it splashed there and I didn’t notice till after. I’ll paint over it tomorrow.
>Day of Dead stuff probably needs something pop-ish if you can't pull off an "old fine arts oil painting master" type job. What do you mean by pop-ish?
Thank you for your time though and your advice!
>>5945608>For a beginner's work this is decent.Thank you!
>Besides what others said, assuming you were aiming at fine realism, you could take the time to study the form of a skull. Yes, I’ve kind of tried to do that. I should do it more. I have a habit of getting frustrated with sketching things out and trying to understand them so I just jump in and start painting without a good idea of the form, I need to get better about that
>An issue with acrylic is that it dries fast, which can make learning experience more difficult.I’ve noticed that! I don’t have much time to mix my paints at all once they are on the canvas, but oil paints seem so daunting because they’re expensive and require a lot of knowledge to use.
>A good exercice for that would be to take e.g. a Da Vinci cranium study, and try to copy it with accuracy with graphite. Try to understand what he's doing that you're not doing.I may try this, thank you for the advice!
>>5945994Wow! This looks awesome! I love it! I’d love to be able to paint like that!
