>>5919937 His art is fucking flat. I took the random picture from Google and just look at the titans. They are literally cardboard cutouts with no muscular volume, just rectangular people with the muscles painted on top with no depth going on, no sense of colossal scale.
This seems to be a running theme with his art and especially the colossal Titan. Yeah I get a monster can have abnormal anatomy that's not the problem. The problem is that his teeth are simply painted on top of the cheeks, there's no depth or volume to it, the jaw doesn't curve inwards, it's just a toothy cheek.
Same with the muscles. Look at any bodybuilder or the Gigachad, every muscular is a chunky lump of meat that has depth to it, they overlap and cover each other creating the sense of scale and depth.
Then in AOT all the muscles look like a flat texture drawn on a cardboard cutout, it's like a sinnyfat guy drawing the abs on his belly.
That's pretty shitty for an artist who is focused on drawing the muscular giants for a living.

If anything that highlights that the quality is secondary to storytelling. Houseki no Kuni is between simplistic and shitty as well, people still love it for the rest of the package.
