A lot of people in the art world are hostile because they didn’t pick up a real hobby until they were 30 and realized that they were a boring fuck and use it to fill the empty space that is their personality. If someone wants to make art their identity, and use it for bragging purposes, they have to be able to make universal art that appeals to everyone, since their personality and identity hinges on whether or not people enjoy their art. Good art has some sort of emotion and subjectivity in it, even classical art which people think is supposed to be about realism and objective beauty, but realism and “doing things correctly” is all most people care about.
There are also younger people who try to do art as a career, but to get a job, that requires that they live up to a certain set of standards which can be a grueling process to learn, and that leads to a lot of negative emotions. When people feel like the world is coming at them they go back at the world.
It’s all just a pecking order.
Even some of the worst and most unproductive criticism can still have useful information in it, whether it be about the subject or the insulter themself, but sometimes it is best to ignore it because no one’s art can be perfect.
