https://winworldpc.com/product/ad-ps/5xI wouldn't use 2 or 1, v3.0 is when it started to get good and many comics and illustrations were colored with that version, then 5.0 and 6.0 came out and it got really good. 7.0 and 8.0 aka CS1 they're really sluggish, the brushes above a certain size will slowdown no matter the hardware, I'm talking about 200px to 400px round brushes.
Best version of Photoshop is CS5 with CS6 and CC1 close second.
