Why didn't americans embrace anime and manga influences as much as countries like France/Italy and maybe latin America did? Even those days their "anime" netflix knock-offs takes more inspiration than ATLA and other shit like that rather than actual anime, and the few "influences" before that were just Akira/Dragon Ball/Sailor Moon.

The fact that they even try to market shit like Castlevania as "anime" instead of calling it another animated series grinds my gears as well. There are plenty of manga inspired euro artists that don't try to do this shit at all and so their work comes out as less offputting and more honest.
