>>5908415Okay, here is the advice I'd give my beginner self. (Knowing I wouldn't listen to it)
Do:
- start a project and actively work on it
- incorporate studies into your personal work; study what interests you
- focus your studies, learn with purpose
- join a local atelier, online community or study group
- draw a lot from life, visit life drawing classes
- get a job with regular schedule that doesn't leave you exhausted
- be open to experiment, trial and error
- value persistency over raw hours, keep at it
- discipline is hard, build habits bit by bit until drawing becomes seconde nature
- take time to internalize and reiterate what you've learned
- set goals focused on things you have full control over
- compare yourself not to others, but to your past and possible future self
- figure out what you need to become your future self
- be proactive, do your own research - don't wait to be spoonfed
- there is always room to grow, learn to appreciate the journey
- don't get disencouraged
- be patient
Keep at it with childlike curiosity and wonder, appreciate your progress, reassess yourself every now and then and I promise you will grow stronger every day.
