Did you learn to draw in school? How was your experience with art in your school years? Do you think we lack in art education compared to other subjects? Do you plan on being an art teacher? Do you live in USA or not? Thanks for your time

Did take a few art classes in high school, pretty chill time. I hope we keep art in schools underfunded and lacking, the art market in the USA is too oversaturated. Need to keep competition lower or everybody is out of a job.

I did a Fine Arts and Illustration degree in the US and I loved it. Every day I miss being in those classes. Sometimes I think about taking a class or two again just for the fun and additional practice. I would like to teach art in the form of instructional videos and streams, and streams where I do critiques of people's work.
I do think the US is incredibly lacking in terms of art education. Lurking here has really cemented that opinion for me. I've been completely blown away by the lack of basic understanding people have now. I can't believe it when I see anons say stuff like "this cartoon drawing has no fundamentals" because they think fundamentals means realism, or things like "perspective isn't a fundamental" or "nobody ever told me perspective is a fundamental". I've lurked /ic/ for around 10 years and I never saw THAT level of confusion, except rarely, back then. I see those kinds of comments elsewhere online too and people asking things that I can't help thinking should be common sense if not something covered in at least a high school art class. I already wanted to teach people but seeing that makes me want to get to it even faster. People shouldn't have to struggle with such basic concepts.

When I was a little esl seanigger we always had art in the curriculum. That all stopped once I went to burgerland. I did not start drawing again after getting a wagie stem job learning on the internet.

Art classes in american public schools are all taught by retarded WASP boomer women that think abstract shit is the peak of art. The curriculum is 99% gimmicky arts and crafts stuff. You might do a single observational drawing or perspective project but you won't learn how to draw. The only thing they're good for is fucking around with friends.

This was exactly my experience in the UK too, except it had a much higher workload than any other of my subjects. Made me really hate art in general for a long time, which is probably the opposite thing an art class should be cultivating.

There was also a ten-hour exam over two days in which we made a final piece and had to work in silence - so we... didn't cheat...?

Back in school we had a running gag of stealing each other's notes and drawing the symbolit 8===D dicks in them.
So one time they passed me somebody else's notes like "go on draw a dick in it" and suddenly a spark hit me. i went on to draw and them shade a full on realistic veiny hard on in 3/4 view using both pages.

When the guy found his notes he was like "holy shit" took it and went around showing it to everyone like "WOW DID YOU SEE THIS THIS IS AMAZING". That's how I discovered my passion for art.
