How can I study architecture as a hobby, gain references?

research the well known architects of those periods and their philosophies, design concepts and translations, materials used, construction methods to name some. also, the floor plans and elevation plans give a lot of information. besides researching and saving images from the web or going to the library for books, if you can travel and do a site visit or occular inspection to appreciate them, take photos or videos of the whole building, interior, exterior details if possible.

Anyway, there are archives, and apparently it wasn't the first concrete thread, see https://4chanarchives.com/board/his/thread/265459 (2015)

There's also a dictionary of architecture somewhere, but IIRC it's more to explain all the elements of a classical Greek temple for instance, I'm not sure it's useful for modern stuff

I don't understand this. Literally any decent bookstore will have a section on architecture, right next to the art book section.

This and collect every single piece of brutalism that you can find. Go through all of it over and over until you find what stands out to you. Then take a break from it for a while and do it again. Learn the history of what you liked and the stuff you didn't like after that. Try to make your own design or version of it and restudy all of it again
