>>5898092You're too pessimistic.
You are right that the comics industry is dead in the west.
I also agree that the future is not in repeating pass methods whether that be print or western comics style rules.
But I think that the reason people are not into comics is because they are simply not accessible. For many reasons but the two main reasons is that they have an outdated art style, and they are overcomplicated.
The art style is easily fixed by copying manga.
But the overcomplicated issue is more difficult. It is not enough to just take a profitable manga idea and publish it in the west, because in the west people are not even seeking it out.
If you want to sell comics you must go back to what is essentially square 1 in industry terms. You must assume that nobody is looking for comics to read, nobody is looking for your genre or your art style or any of that. You have no existing audience. You must create a product that people will want but are not looking for... which means it must be extremely accessible. Which means simplicity is key. Not simplicity to the point of genericism of course. A key balance.
Something like One piece.. it is complex these days.. but it began extremely simple, and that is why it succeeded
Demon Slayer would not sell in the west if it had not already succeeded in Japan and developed a reputation for being a good series. If it was published as a western comic, it would be glossed over as yet another weird and overcomplicated comic made by some nutjob
