I am 18 years old and about to start university.
I have always been extremely passionate about visual arts, especially painting, drawing and photography.
I was thinking of attending a fine arts academy here in Italy to study painting, but the formation itself seems quite dire, let alone the job prospects.
I would like to fully commit to the study of art as I think that technical maestry is one of the ways to unlock one's creative potential, allowing them to express themselves through their chosen medium, which in my case would be painting and drawing.
Aside from art I am considering architecture as I find it mildly interesting, I appreciate its interdisciplinary education + academic environment and the job prospects are way better. Architecture will also play a pretty big role in humankind's adaptation to the consequences of climate change, which is why I feel like it is important, although I'm not passionate about it. I know many adults into architecture (even university professors) and they suggest I go into that field rather than wasting my "potential" (their word) in art school.
What would you suggest?
(picrel is Giger, one of my favourite artists ever. He studied design to have a plan B but did not enjoy it. Same goes for other self taught artists I look up to like Beksinski.)
