it merely depends on the kind of appeal you want to create, either something cutesty, or cool, or emotive, descriptive, simple, sexy, sharp... you should first define the appeal you want to do, then follow some particular points and guidelines to achieve such appeal.
Keep in mind you should have grinded enough to develop decent looking pieces, then you must shape your works to fit the appeal you want to achieve.
