Checking any video about figure drawing on youtube and observing how other make their lines.
References helps a lot. Finding artist that I like and try to see how they draw a certain part and copy it. Breaking down their drawing also help.
I'd say having at least basic understanding of how things work will help tremendously when you are creating something. As for how to make it look decent, that all come down to practices.
