By knowing my worth. I know that I want to earn at least 30 bucks an hour and charge accordingly. If you're really good or really fast, you can pay yourself more. But for me this seems a fair price for my current skill set and time investment per commission. For commercial work I charge a lot more, this pricing is for private commissioners so that the artwork is still affordable.

I take my hourly rate and multiply by how many hours it will take to do the project. Then maybe add a bit on top, depending on what extra asks there are.
