3D is just a superior art technique to 2D, it's much more time efficient.
2D is literally a luddite art technique to make art for videogames.
I spent years learning 2D and eventually had to give up for 3D, because 2D is just too time consuming for 1% of 3D capabilities.
Also, 3D can easily imitate 2D art, as long as the artist is competent.
