How do I make Wacom Intuos work under Linux Mint? I have one and I can draw with it in GIMP, but the 4 buttons do nothing. The CD software is meant for Windows, so what are the software alternatives for Linux?

Linux has good tablet support, you just need to know what you're doing.
xsetwacom should work with your tablet out of the box, tablets not made by wacom tend to need some fiddling, though.
