- Design in general. Would be cool to show kids that things we use in our daily lives were designed with function and aesthetics in mind.
- Basics of observation drawing and color theory.
- Basic semiotics.
- I'd talk with a history or philosophy teacher on teaming up to talk about mythology.
- Self-expression. Take a day in the month to just let the kids go crazy with art supplies. and cultivate joy in creating.
I'm to be hired as an art teacher soon, but I don't know yet if I'll work with kindergarten or middle school kids yet. The school has its own curriculum, so I'm not worried about planning classes, but my biggest goal will be to teach kids both love and a critical eye for art. To see art in the context of their lives and to see in art a window to the context of other people's lives too.
