Do you find drawing more fun than playing video games? I don't have to make myself play video games or watch youtube, but drawing feels just like a chore for me. Does it feel like a chore for you? I just want to know how everyone here feels and if this is a normal feeling.

Maybe I'm not cut out for this shit. I'm a beginner obviously.

I got more personal satisfaction from completing one extremely poor series of rotated boxes that helped me understand 3D better than I got from a year of raiding. That's when I knew that drawing was what I had to do to escape the brain damage I'd suffered from WoW.

why would you do it, if you don't enjoy it? I only draw and paint because I love it. I play video games too but only to take breaks.
an aside: seems most on these threads share your problem honestly. I've never seen such whining and complaining and hatred for others efforts on this channel
if you don't enjoy it, do something else. it will only get worse if you get good at it and start getting an audience and need to do it for sales.

I love manga, and it feels like I should want to draw it since I love it so much. I've always felt like I "should" be an artist, so I decided to try it but I've gotten nowhere with it, and I don't have any fun. Some of it is probably perfectionism but I don't have that easy love for the process like a lot of people like you seem to have.

I'm terrible but I love the challenge and don't have a problem grinding all day. maybe if you take a break you'll find you love it too much and come back to it. I do hope that's the case. but if you're not enjoying it, or not driven by some strange urge to keep going without thinking of stopping, that sounds like a long road to a hard life to me

The disturbing thing to me OP is that you seemingly see playing vidya as an equally as important or useful thing as learning a life skill. The fact that you even think “why do I have a harder time paying attention to creative production than I do playing a GAME that was designed to feature as much artificial reward-reinforcement systems to make it as addictive as possible?”… is weird to me.

Think about from the POV of your future self. How often do you look back at the hundreds of hours you’ve disappeared into a vidya? You think future you is stoked that you’re playing a game you probably won’t even remember playing in a few years when you could be making future you’s life less shitty?

There are plenty of artists in the world that don't see art as work. They might see it as hard, but it's not work to them. No one likes work. They see the challenge of getting their drawing right the same way someone might see beating a tough boss in Dark Souls or something.

Like you should look at vidya as jerking off and art as trying to fuck someone maybe idk. Both can be fun or frustrating but only one is fulfilling your existential meaning of life.

I stopped playing video games because finishing the games made me so upset that the story was ending. I have this habit of playing till the final dungeon, then just never picking it up again. At the same time open ended games are so frustrating because I can’t get closure.

Drawing is the best. You watch yourself, not someone else. You get closure when you finish a piece, but the journey never ends. I draw because it pleases me.

Ironically, I find drawing more rewarding than any other activity, but only because porn boorus don't have specific tags for hips. So I'm driven to create my own even though I have zero skill or refinement. The dopamine loop from drawing a girl and looking at her is amazing for how short the cycle is, shorter than any game I know. And at least I have more to show for it afterward than playing League.

I used to play games with my brothers, but I haven't played the last 8ish years now. They all still play league though.
Now I'm glad that drawing is what I love to do, fun to me, and still rewarding.

i no longer find any enjoyment whatsoever in easy-dopamine-hit sources of pleasure like video games, watching TV, or even masturbating anymore. I just autistically plot perspective all day until it becomes intuitive and I can go on to start actually drawing. I think if my enthusiasm for this (which is actually very high) burns out then I will take my own life because there is nothing left for me after drawing

For me nothing will be more engaging than gaming, but you are approaching it wrongly. Study, practice, working, training, these activities, albeit tiring, they will give you a sense of self-fulfilling that videogames cannot give. You need to think this: "right now it sucks, but I'll feel good about myself for working so hard.

Drawing feel like work when you are just starting out. I hated drawing the first year. All of my drawing looked like utter shit. However something just clicked recently. I enjoy drawing way more now. I feel like my drawings are getting up to my standards. When I make a drawing, I feel proud. Its like "I might be an idiot but damn, at least I can create semi decent works".

I feel like I am excited to draw. It also feels gambling. You never know how well an idea will look on paper until you draw it . The best feeling for an artist is to have doubts and work throu it and have the final work blow you away. "Damn, I can do THAT"
