>>5863291It depends on what you want to call it, I mostly hear the sketch called and under sketch as you are never really meant to see it. with painting irl, you generally block in large amounts with a color, and then refine it, you tend to see this alot with painting videos where people may have a very basic sketch for what they want, and then paint hard over it, and refine from there. if your end result is a painting, its likely faster to just blob shit down and refine than it would be to draw it out than paint in the lines that will get covered anyway.
