also has a good video that also uses a lot of photoshop tools but I think his result is a bit less obvious it was from grayscale.
I think at the end of the day it is easier to just do enough color studies that you understand values when working directly with color. Grayscale to color sounds like a nice cheat code but considering you even made this thread and have difficult with it (as did I) I don't think it's necessarily easier. Even when you go from greyscale to color you're still needing to manage colors and their values, there is never going to be a way around this. Mulitply mode is the closet you will get but things get muddy and sad looking quickly. I have made leaps and bounds with my art once I started jumping into color from the getgo.
