Copying master works has always been the main way to teach and learn since the Renaissance; this also has been a major element for teaching Chinese painters in the past.
Besides, you have a few interesting points, but I think what you advise need to be more nuanced, for instance

But yes, only drilling endlessly won't bring you that far and might disgust you from drawing. Yet, to master anatomy for instance, drilling is kinda mandatory, so learning to enjoy it/find way to enjoy it is recommended.
