These people have already went through the process of construction/gesture/boxes/whatever ages ago, there comes a point where you've done it so much that it becomes eternalized and they can visualize the forms and shit before hand or while they're drawing. The construction is still there anon, it's just in his head

hey its me, the 'oekaki mf'. To answer your question, drawing these disconnected masked faces has always been something of a comfort zone thing for me. If I were to try and connect it to a body or something else id for sure need to think about things like gesture, structure, boxes and the like, drawing something like this lets me get away with a lot of things I can just bullshit or cover up with mindless details. Other anons in this thread have already mentioned it but the more you practice with construction, the easier it becomes to identify as you draw and at some point it becomes partly subconsious

I realise those who stay in comfort zone are really good at one thing but how come the skill of drawing that one thing do not transferr into other things? I have comfort zone and I struggle with that too. I do not understand how can comfort zone be based on a single subject (gasmask in Ur case) but grinding fundies are not based on a subject and can be transferred to other aspects of drawing? Also I tend to look down on comfort zone art no matter how good it is even tho having a comfort zone takes a lot of work and effort to finally be good at

Literally not a comfort zone then. Comfort zone doesn't mean what you like drawing, comfort zone means you've drawn that same thing SO many times that it comes naturally now. It's not really a skill you practice. It just happens naturally from doing stupid doodles in class or at work when you're bored.

I guess you could think of it like rote learning, for most people drawing in your comfort zone leaves little to improve on or just doesn't involve much critical thinking, its just iterating on patterns you've seen before. While I don't think its necessarily a bad thing to have a comfort zone it can lead to some bad habits, make sure to push yourself out every now and then
