>>5843519You guys really have to understand that not all artists can cross disciplines with the same ease. Proko is good at the things he teaches, which is observational drawing and anatomy. Character design and stylisation are parts of draftsmanship that require an entirely different way of thinking, and if you haven't really been exposed to different styles and media before you're not going to have a trained eye for appeal in that specific discipline. Proko barely does digital art, to my knowledge has never done sequential art, and doesn't stylise. So yeah no shit he's gonna miss the mark.
Anyway, aside from that this was an interesting opportunity to do a small redesign exercise. While I really like
>>5846501 I don't think it's necessarily strong redesign. It's extremely appealing and cute but doesn't say really convey anything about character personality and ends up losing some information, like the fact that the dogs seem to be Shitzus, for example. On the "character design" department I think
>>5845415 conveys a bit more personality, but loses out on using shape language to its advantage.
From the page posted above Eva seems to be confident and domineering while Wall-E a bit more dumb and sweet. Both dogs seem to be Shitzus so they're naturally pretty soft and rounded but there's still little elements you can play around with. I rounded up the male dog and took away a lot of the bulk Proko added, in an attempt, I imagine, to differentiate their genders a bit more. There's other ways to assign gender to cartoon animals and I think this was pretty heavy handed. It's a bit more tricky on Eva because she naturally has a "moustached" snout, but I think playing around with the head accessory (instead of just adding a pink flower jfc Proko) could help a bit. Playing with their brows more gives create opportunity for more expressions too.
