All sorts of artists have low follower counts. Driving interactions and jumping on trends is one way to grow followers. Twitter is a social media platform, not an art platform, so you're going to be limiting your growth if you only post art.

I bet most artists would prefer to use a more art-centered platform, but we were all forced into this model of "anything-goes" social media because that's where people go nowadays. Places like deviantart are desert and any website with more than 2 buttons is too dazzling for 80% of the Internet (which nowadays is just phoneniggers, as well put by >>5843246 )

And with forums rarer nowadays it's hard to find a good place to post your art to bait people to visit your art stash or something.
