I've got (mainland) Chinese friends who don't know many trad characters, thought they may be able to infer them from context, I haven't asked them. Also, traditional Chinese, besides the characters, can refer to traditional Chinese texts. Which again according to multiple Chinese friends, and my personal experience, are very different in form that contemporary/spoken Chinese.
I'm curious: are you Chinese? Are you able to easily infer trad from simplified (or the other way around?)
