1/2
I just finished Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain and it was a good confidence builder, i went from "I'm a science bitch, not an artlet, i can't draw anything but stick figures" to "hey i actually sort of made something that has depth and looks realistic"
I still have a problem sight-sizing proportions and angles perfectly but i'm getting better with practice. When i'm really not feeling confident i use the plastic picture pane to mark points of interest and then transfer them to my paper using a ruler to get the proportion to the format correct; but i'm trying to stop that.
Now that I feel drawing is possible for me to learn what should I do next? I have been considering the following courses:
- The Art and Science of Drawing - Brent Eviston
- Draw A Box
- Proko's Figure Drawing Course
A lot of people say DAB is a trap, if all it teaches is perspective i might just wait and take Marshall Vandruffs new Perspective course (if it comes out sometime this year) or Erik Olsen's
My original plan was to do Proko's Figure Drawing after Right Side of the Brain, but I got a vibe from the Right Side of the Brain book that it was focusing more on pseudo-science than drawing so I am considering the Brent Eviston course. I'm just a little fearful that i'm going to spend a bunch of time on the Brent Eviston course re-learning stuff I already learned in the Right Side of the Brain book.
So what course would you recommend to a beg who is just doing art as a hobby on the side who is still trying to learn the fundamentals?
Feel free to recommend a different course than the ones listed above but please at least explain why you're recommending it.
