I like both.
Probably because my fetishes go for more extreme stuff like gore and heavy ryona/rape. So it's more that vanilla is a nice balance when I'm not in the mood for murder rape doujins, and anything that's in that in between zone just feels boring.

There's a few exceptions of course. And I guess it depends on what the definition of vanilla is. There's nothing that makes doggy/submissive/light bandage not vanilla. And I'm a big fan of vanilla futa on girl.

Vanilla casts a much wider net but you've really gotta have a following you can stand out with. Specializing in an obscure fetish can bring in money due to the small supply pool but you need to make sure it's not one so obscure that nobody would buy it from you.

You could do both and just have a do's and don't list

my badly drawn fetish art makes more money and gets way more views than my well drawn vanilla porn or echis. The NSFW artists I personally know with the most success cater to specific fetishes.

People need some reason to want you in particular to draw shit, like being well known, doing weird fetish shit, focusing on some niche fandom etc.
