The truth is that art has been rapidly in decline after the high renaissance, the over use of binders and conveniencey of canvas and other templates as well as the even further simplification of pigment and paint in the following centuries which changed pigment micron level thus fucking it up even more then make it so that it becomes almost impossible to truly emulate old masters and this has become so known that all art authenticators need to do to distinguish forgeries from real ones is look at the micron layer size.
At the very best you will only be able to reach 1800's painting levels if you're lucky. Trying to pawn this off as being your fault for not grinding enough, or not using proper technique is a cope given by conmen, the formula did matter more than technique and at the end of the day you will never be able to replicate the old masters.
Also CAN I FUCKING SUBSTITUTE IVORY BLACK WITH LAMP BLACK IN THE ZORN PALETTE I'VE BEEN ASKING THIS FOR HOURS NOW AND GOT NO ANSWERS

Lamp black has very fine particle size so it needs more medium, but also makes cooler tints. Since it requires so much oil, assuming you are painting with oil, it dries even slower than other carbon blacks, and is not good for under layers.
If you want the leanest black, charcoal from wood is best.

Also we used to use literal blood to paint. What screams soul more than using the blood of a living being or even your enemy? Now we use pussy paint made by coorporations that any retarded renaissance dipshits can use. They would've cried if they got blood on their girl hands. They also got their neat canvas made from soft fabric. Back in the day we needed to scout for a new cave to paint in. Once you filled one you had to find a new one. The stones cut your finger? Bo ho pussy. Stop making excuses for using shortcuts like paint, brushes or a canvas. Go back to traditional art.

There are a lot of differences. It is not about making things easier, but involvement with the craft and materials as well as other things like imagination. Artists do not look back to cave paintings as a point where arts were at their peak. Artists have been looking back to the Renaissance ever since, whether for failed emulation, reaction, or reference. It has a canonical status, different from things that are primitive or archaic.
Cave painting is also not more difficult, as the overall systems of Renaissance painting are much more complex, involving knowledge of materials and how to work them properly. For various painting media they still generally maintain the best ways, as far as the materials available permitted, of working them. Artists are still looking back at how the paintings were made to inform them for archivability or for bringing out the qualities of the materials.
It is also not about how available or convenient the materials are, but what the more available materials are like. Canvas is not as lasting as wood panel. Titanium white is not as lasting and is not suitable for making paintings like old masters as lead white. Pigments prepared from modern manufacturing do not form stronger films, have worse working qualities, and are more suited for other system of painting other than old masters, which is something that a lot of artists still strive for. Modern additives in most oil paint are good for the sake of storage but worse for painting.
Also cave painters likely used brushes, reconstituted clay, or just the ochre rocks themselves aside from purely using fingers.

Of all the artists who try to paint like old masters there are very very few who could.
Replicating and doing something that you say is better are not the same. Many of these old masters could compose and execute large complex pantings many times in a year, even some who did not have assistants.
I do think it is possible to paint like old masters but there are aspects that are not taught. We can still grind our own pigments from raw sources, but how many artists would go through the trouble?
