"Anime" is a recent term born to indicate any animation made in Japan (yes, western animated shit can't be anime unless MAYBE it's produced, story-boarded and written in Japan and only animated by a western studio). It being used to describe art styles at this point is useless since there is not an unified "anime/manga" art style. Every mangaka or japanese illustrator isn't linked to the same art style. Hirohiko Araki and Oda don't have similar looking characters. Hell a lot of One Piece characters could be mistaken as western cartoons. I also saw people calling Yoshitaka Amano and Yoji Shinkawa anime and that stuck a nerve. Saying that every single stylized art style is part of an "art movement" or has "certain expectations" is the same kind of thought that produces misconceptions like all western comics being capeshit.
