>>5798983You ever hear of the phrase, "Product of their time" when describing someone from the past who had... less than modern ideas about things? Funny how people keep using that phrase, generation after generation, but they never stop to think, "Am *I* a product of my time?"
I may be many things. Selfish, stubborn, hypocritical, but I am NOT a product of my time. I might be a product of my environment, except I know many people who grew up with the same values I did, in the same or similar environment, but consciously rejected the values we once shared. So in the end, we all made a choice.
You, on the other hand, talk about society, and how it's changing, and how we have to change with it, as if society hasn't been trash since the dawn of humanity.
If you lived in ancient Rome, you'd go to watch men murder each other in the arena for entertainment. If you lived in medieval Europe, you'd turn out to watch heretics be hanged. If you lived in Stalinist Russia, you'd hand over your neighbors as enemies of the state. Because in each reality that would be what your society expected of you.
And now, your society expects you to twist your mind inside out and say up is down and black is white, and if you express any doubts you get thrown out in the proverbial cold. And you are so eager to lick boot. And why?
Because you are a product of your time.
You are a prisoner of time.
When the wind changes, where will you be blown next?
