Why is harder for westerners to make a decent east-west art style hybrid in comparison to what happens when japs do it?

Japanese games, manga and anime that take inspiration from western media are great, but western cartoons that take inspiration from anime are always stiff and rigid (Avatar and many capeshit cartoons are so obsessed with staying on model and using the blandest art directions possible that it just becomes boring to watch), let's not even talk about all the shitty OEL manga from the 2000s or the disasters we got when japanese developers decided to let gaijins develop games for their franchises.

The best western japanese-influenced shit tends to come from France/Belgium/Italy. One of my favorite current comics artist that is obscure in the rest of the world is LRNZ, and I feel like he does a pretty good job adapting anime influences to his style without completely aping it.

TL:DR Why do a lot of westerners (well, mainly americans) fail at making something anime-influenced look appealing and interesting but nips taking influences from the west always results in something fresh and fun to look at?
