the main brushes he seems to use are a tilted soft round elliptical brush for laying in color washes and then any old "hard round" type brush (which is literally what dense watercolor is without colormixing on which he seems to use sometimes with very little mixing of the ground color) with density/opacity jitter and a low pressure size taper so the line weight is more controllable by the brush size. if you watch him sketch it's very clear he just uses the basics. his style comes from his rendering. circl tip brushes are very flexible because you can get round to flat shapes with them and adjust their softness by default to get different line qualities. they also make for good blurring tools with softer edges in clip studio when you have the colormixing just move the pigment around that's already on canvas.

and more recent is very straightforward digital workflow. he has an illustrative rendering style which gives him a signature look such as his hatching and color choices.

lack has been using sai and ps since forever you can check any of the latest vids. Don't care what hungry_click uses, back when he used to show canvas it was ps but he could use something else at this point

like he did the base shading with some weird blue tone then it suddenly blended it with whatever was the flat color beneath it and it just worked? most noticeable in the hat where there are 2 very different flat colors but he shaded both areas with the same blue

If you paint on separate layers and then lock the colors so that you can't paint outside of what's already there, then you don't have to worry about colors spilling over.

I made an example here to show you.

The artist in the video used a layer set to multiply (most likely) and colored over their existing flat colors. It's a quick way to add shading without having to keep adjusting for all the different colors in a picture.

After that you could merge the layers and then blend it as you wish. Real easy trick.

he's either using a layer mask on the folder containing all the colors (or each individual color layer, but that sounds more work when the mask can be on a single folder) or he carefully colored in the whole thing with that gray and is making all of the color layers above clip to the gray layer

Okay I downloaded it and when I first tested it out I didn't really get it but now that I've used it on something I was actually painting I'm a believer.
This brush has a fucking nice feel to it, it's great.
So far I think it's best for harder rendering like hair and clothes and not so much skin but maybe I haven't tested out the softer pressure side of it enough. You have to press a little hard to get the pigment out but that ends up making it feel really buttery to me. Kind of like painting with a palette knife. Very, very nice recommendation.

Oh yeah I meant to mention that. I don't want to mess with the brush's actual settings but there's also the option of changing your tablet's sensitivity too. I might mess around with that at some point, since you can always reset it back to normal, but right now I really like how it feels. It builds up color pretty fast if you do a few passes too but that can make strokes look a little messy if you're not careful. Still there's definitely options to get what you want from it. It's honestly the best brush for painterly rendering I've used in CSP and I've been trying a ton of them.

Ok so the 1st vid you linked is the same elliptical Brush that Anon just linked, so that's good.
