Is using 3D models bad?

I get some artists might be angry because they grinded the box and now people can just generate stuff in their computer and just draw on top. But is it really bad for an artist?

I'm not going to comment on whether it's "ethical" or cheating or whatever but 1. it's used a lot by professionals 2. technically it isn't even a recent thing, as people used to do the same thing using physical models.
I'm going to say, though, there are challenges to using 3D in a way that's not going to look bad and suck the life out of your artwork. Physical models have the advantage that rendering in real life is perfect - your lighting and textures are almost automatically going to look fantastic as long as you know how to recreate them in your chosen medium.
3D renderings on the other hand will be all over the place depending on how good you are at modeling or using the 3D software. I've experimented with incorporating 3D rendered elements in my artwork and I was rarely 100% happy with how it turned out. You could always sort of see the 3D in there if you squinted and it would look awkward. Photos on the other hand are easy to incorporate and they tend to lend realism and gravitas to the artwork, rather than making it look more fake as is often case with 3D.

I set my vehicle drawings up in 3d very loosly and then sketch over. Drawing intake manifolds, cone filters, battery covers etc. Is really tough to calculate quickly and efficiently without it

People who frown on 3d models are permabegs in this board, 3d models are insanely good, makes the making of digital art faster, you do lose "soul" into it, unless you wanna be a traditional painter, you can pull out any 3d model out of your ass and no one would give a shit but the permabegs.

For your improvement, yes, if you want to be stuck having the same quality of art without learning, then go ahead and be my guest. Stagnating because you want to copy what other artist's do has never stopped any artist from stagnating, why not stagnate with them?
