This one is pepipopo's and is a redraw from the new spongebob xmas special and that elf loli everyone is gushing, but the special has the worst of the imitation style ren and stimpy wacky ugly faces.

This redraw is done in traditional animation style.

Spongebob is a pretty funny and weird show for the first 60 episodes until the first movie came out.
Then afterwards I would say The Misadventures of Flapjack is basically he spiritual continuation of what that ren and simply lineage that spongebob tried to continue but incorporating Hillenburgs experience with marine science.
Then you get to Adventure Time which was based on Flapjack but with less Ren and Stimpy in it. It was based on the creators childhood in florida.
Then an explosion of shows based on Adventure Time that completely ignore the roots of the show and only use surface themes of random humour and simplified cutesy art, now with progressive themes to "educate the children" even though the people writing it are emotionally stunted and confused children in adult bodies that grew up on tumblr and now twitter.
It's basically the same problem as anime. All of the older good shows were made by people with interests and influences that weren't just other animated shows. They brought something new with them that they wanted to make into an animated show. The people making cartoons and anime now are fans of cartoons and anime with no outside interests other than making and consuming animation. They have no stories to tell.

It's an issue that all artists face. Do you actually have experiences and interests that you could share with other people through your art that isn't solely based on consuming other art or media?

Whoops got my sentences mixed up.
Spongebob was obviously based on Hillenburg's experience with marine science.
Flapjack was based on the creator's childhood in florida.
Adventure Time seems to just be based on other media rather than experiences or outside influences.

adventure time works imo, the meta elements were done somewhat tastefuly and it came out at the right time, its only one level removed from the cartoons is based on more or less, while the stuff that tries to imitate at ends up failing because its imitating the imitation
