I *think* their painting approach is relatively tied to their way of drawing, especially if you consider academical subjects.
And regarding drawing, it's very close to what is taught in non-Russian schools, except they seem to rely much less on sight-size and value less the ability to copy things perfectly.
From Mogilevtsev, they also put a certain emphasis on attitude, and on the importance of attitude/ideas/mindset when painting, and how it can subtly influence the result.
From your video, the overall process seem to be "standard"/covered by Mogilevtsev: make a few small scale study (composition, color, etc.), work from big to small (thus the lack of details), play with temperature, etc.
