Can anyone recommend me some good artists that use or used soft/oil pastels? preferably more stylized illustration character type art to study from but master fine artists are good too, most I find is photo portraits and kitsch sunset landscapes

The medium is overall little used and cumbersome to use as you can easily achieve but optical blending unless you have a myriad of pastels.

Oil pastels are a bit different, as you can use solvent and thus get something close to oil paints.

I've bookmarked a few pastel related YouTubes that I should dig further, in case that can help, but IIRC this is mostly landscape stuff. Illustration is usually tighter than what pastels naturally allows/are typically used.

There also are some famous old French pastellists (-> Wikipedia).

I remember coming across Elena Tatkina on instagram. A lot of soft pastel artist are Russians. Wonder if there's a course or something specializing in that. Must be a lot of fun providing you have lots of colors.

There's a course on NMA iirc. Realism though. Also, I'd recommend pan pastels over normal pastels, or use makeup. That's quicker and easier to blend.
