>>5782879OK that makes sense. For the record I didn't mean that analyzing/copying the 2d shapes in an image is a bad thing per se. It is an issue if it's consistently done *in lieu of* anatomy study. (A common beginner issue is to fall into the trap of prioritizing a "nice rendering" over developing a 3d understanding of something)
Here's what I mean by that. *Not that I'm anybody special*, but here you can see a quick sketch where I'm "grappling" with the subject as a "voluminous", 3D object. Im shown it from one angle, but drawing it from a very different one to force myself to not "trace out" the 2d shapes or impress anyone with a beautiful picture. The idea being, once you understand something as a 3d object then, and only then, are you equipped to render it. Obviously a huge prerequisite here is perspective drawing and some anatomy knowledge about the skull etc. but it's this type of investigative drawing that's missing from a lot of people's work.
And of course some people will disagree with me! A lot of people hold 2d impressions in pretty high regard, just throwing my 2 cents out there :)
