What are some good realistic and subtractive painting softwares? I have been using Krita but it doesn't have realistic color mixing. As someone from traditional background that is a turn-off.

Also, has anyone used Realistic Paint Studio? Is it any good?

Wait for Rebelle 5 to come out. Should be before christmas. Realistic Paint Studio is a meme app for kids. It tricks you into thinking the brush engine is more impressive than it really is with the heavy textured canvases (that in reality you'd want to avoid when photographing your work) and skeumorphic interface. You can achieve the exact same effect in Photoshop with a canvas texture.

realistic has hands down the best pencils I have ever used digitally, with one pencil I can go from find tip to very flat shade, something I can't do in any other software in a believable way, it also has some tutorial drawings which will walk you through how to draw/paint what's there, I thought this was a fantastic learning tool for someone newer,

I also think that the way they limited choice works in their advantage by making a single good brush for every tool rather than everyone else's approach of 'here's a tool... fuck if I know, here are some shit brushes, we kind of expect you to make your own'

will other tools be better? yes, but I find realistic to be the best out of the box experience as long as you are not going for a brush sim or want to have the best pencils.

that said rebelle 5 will shit on this hardcore for how realistic results are.

Thanks I will try out Rebelle 5. Where do you see the release date for Rebelle 5?

Also, how does Rebelle compare to Krita for the standard digital painting? I have only used Krita and like some of the brushes Krita has, but the gray mixing with their blending brushes is a turn-off.

I mostly got rebelle exclusively for the watercolor, their other brushes are fantastic, but I think what will push it over the edge form great to leading will be the pigment based mixing, from the small demos they showed, it takes it from being great compared to digital to being exactly how you think a real brush would act.

if you are iffy on getting rebelle, I think they have a demo for the software, where the limitation is you can't save, that should be a fantastic way to check it out.
