Overall, you can draw without one just fine but in some instances they're handy to have around. Whenever i draw i have anatomical references up to check myself so i feel these would work in the same way.
Seeing the human form in 3D really changes how you perceive what you're drawing, its good if you're developing that part of ur brain ESPECIALLY if you cant attend live figure drawing classes for whatever reason.
On top of having one of these i have a medical grade anatomy skull on my desk, i think having one of those is super good too. I give him sunglasses and hats sometimes.
