Use it or lose it. Drawing is like any other skill, you must constantly keep it honed and sharpened like a knife. Otherwise, like anything requiring effort, it dulls the more you avoid doing it. You're complaining about losing your gains after a year, most people see significant drops after only a month.

you're not drawing. all you do is copy lines from your reference and because you suck at copying lines, you spend 4 hours+ doing it.
you think you've worked hard and is gmi but that's just an illusion. in the end you've learned nothing other than redrawing lines until it looks right and so you will remain a permabeg till the end of time.

1. be clear of what you want to learn from your reference.
2. do whatever you need to understand what you want to learn from your reference. you can copy the lines at this stage if it helps you to understand.
3. draw the parts you wanted to learn from memory. if you can do it, it means you've understood. if you can't, repeat step 2 until you can draw it from memory.

it's the same as studying for a test. if you can recall the concepts from memory, surely you must have understood it.
