The other reason why the best artists are less likely to be women is that the IQ distributions of men and women are different, with the variance of the distribution being higher for men, meaning men are more likely to be high or low IQ.
Of course some people will argue that IQ doesn't matter for art, but personally I think that having a high IQ will give an inherent advantage over someone with a low IQ, since pattern recognition is relevant for art, and a higher IQ person generally learns quicker. So basically, men are more likely to have high IQs, which makes it more likely for the best artists to be men.
