I don't understand grayscale painting. Are you supposed to be aware of how different colors have different values in grayscale as you paint, or are you just supposed to be thinking of where the light falls on an object?
If it's the former how is that easier than just starting off with actual color? Doesn't that mean you're thinking about color anyway? I always assumed the reason people painted in grayscale was because they could figure out the lighting first and then easily plug colors in after, but now I'm not so sure.
