>>5768911I think you should plan to do like 5-8 year mini careers with the ultimate goal of being good enough and networked enough that people come to you for jobs and you can pick and choose work while doing your own shit be that comics, gallery shows, private large scale commissions like portrait work for rich fucks or working on collected artbooks like KJG and Karl Kopinski do.
The mini careers are basically you working in some art related career that doesnt overlap with your previous work network wise so you are constantly making new connections and learning new shit.
For example animation studio -> movie work -> comic work -> vr worlds design -> automotive design etc
When you get good and have some financial security you prioritize industries that are breaking edge and get into the circles where all of the investment money is being funneled and take a risk with getting paid in part equity since you won't starve if it doesn't work out.
The most important part of all of this is just slowly building your network of people that think of you when they need dependable artists with practical skills.
