Higher skill is always better. But being able to put your ideas on paper is what matters. Skill is a vehicle for doing so.

If you ask a /beg/ to do something that conveys emotion or atmosphere they'd be hopeless. But something like OP is still within the realm of possibility, it has a cute gore moe to it, but it doesn't convey a sense of threat or darkness a better artist would be able to convey. And that's where getting gud comes in, not for basic images but for those deeper things you wish to draw.

Most people just want to see a character they recognize (read: cute anime babe) in a charming cartoony style. They don't demand perfection, and in fact the obsession here with cleanliness and polish doesn't square out with what's in demand in many cases. I've posted dogshit that's gotten more likes than my "serious" work, just because it follows formula "recognizable character in cartoony style."
So is it good enough to land you a competitive concept art/illustration job? No, but it's good enough for independent endeavors, or if you really, really like getting likes on Twitter.

Knowing your audience.

Prioties of taste from the individual. What do they value or put on a pedestal. Do they value realism over stylazation. If stylzation, what style and what sub culture values it.

It's very subjective due to tastes. However, many people can see quality in art outside of their tastes, they recognize the talent and competence that it takes to pull off.

Know your audience and take critiques with a grain of salt, people that hate a certain sub genre may have valid points, but they're tastes will often destroy what your going for.

Now, with what's good for you, artwise, is your own taste and what you prioritize, and that can change on a whim.

Changing your hierarchy of tastes and priorities will change what you value and see as "good".

This is not realistic, but it has good balance and harmony that compensates for all of its shortcomings. The artist knows not to get ahead of himself and produces only that which he can output well.

/ic/ artists are horrible degenerates and if you do anything but academic xerocopies and anime portraits they will shit on you. The kind of art that gets you likes, follows, comms and patreonbux is not the kind of art that impresses the pseuds here.

I showed my art to a friend of mine and he was genuinely in awe while I was convinced that I was dogshit thanks to /ic/ and /ic/ based discords. He told me to start posting and I did and I shot up to 4k followers in like a year. If it wasn't for him I'd still be obsessed with muh bargue plates and making perfect still life paintings for a crumb of approval from niggers on Violet Clovers who haven't earned a penny in their lives because all they do is xerocopy.

For those of you who need to hear this: Do your own shit for a while, don't worry about posting it anywhere, just try to find out what you truly want to darw. Think of your own characters, draw fanart of existing ones, etc. People want an emotional connection and they want to see stuff they care about, that's why cartoonshit beg artists make more money than some retard who makes perfect paintings of pinterest whores all day long.
