I'm buying a new monitor do I need to look out for any features or marketing buzzwords to make sure that the colors are going to be accurate?

just get an ips panel and make sure the pixel density is good (size to resolution ratio), that's all that really matters
if you want decent color accuracy you'll have to get something like a cintiq pro or some expensive photography monitor

More important than having the best monitor out there is making sure your art looks good on multiple devices.
I have a shitty monitor and a phone I use for checking readability on pieces I plan to print or that are commissioned.

On my own stuff I just use whatever looks good on my good screen (which is just a standard but not aged monitor, which tend to get darker and have less contrast), fuck everyone else.

almost no monitor is calibrated for accuracy, they're calibrated to have vibrant oversaturated, overcontrasted colors because when people see it in stores they go "wow!" and buy it thinking it's good and accurate.

the ONLY way to get color accuracy is by using a colorimeter.

You want contrast ratio of 1000:1 or higher
And as far as color gamut goes, the higher the better in adobe rgb or ntsc. sRGB is old as fuck, don't let 90% sRGB fool you it sounds good but it's not nearly the same number of colors as the others even at 100%.

Aside from that get a good resolution screen, and it should have a decent response rate. Doesnt need to be gamer level just not slow as shit.

even if you get a calibrated display you still need to recalibrate it through the year
so if color accuracy is something you need you need to buy a spyder calibrator

Does having a perfectly calibrated monitor even matter if people are going to use shitty monitors and phones to view your art? Even if you get the colors perfect, it might be wrong on their end.

Even if your monitor is 100% perfectly calibrated and you buy expensive equipment to ensure it matches the light in your room, people who view your art are going to be doing it in a differently lit room with a shitty uncalibrated 5 year old screen.
I wouldn't worry so much about accuracy, just get whatever looks good for you.
