Should classical music be listened to while doing art?
It’s great because there are no lyrics and I’m familiar with the material, so listening to it becomes easier there’s no bar to enter. I already enjoy it by itself.

Also, whats up with all the BS surrounding classical music as an elitist thing here? I figured artists would understand that knowledge about an art enhances the perceptual pleasure of the art form. Just rudimentary knowledge of form, theme, and development is enough, you dont need to hear every note, modulation, and harmony....it doesnt hurt, but still.

You should also study the theory of classical music. I don't mean you need to understand and remember all music theory but you need to know the forms etc. because this music is not as simple formally as modern pop music.

He must have heard hundreds of hours of Palestrina's music there while painting because that's where the Pope's personal choir performs since the 1400s. Well, Palestrina was only 10-20yo when Michelangelo was painting there but whoever was the most celebrated composer just before him.

There are people who have the same experience as me. I thought I was the crazy one, because everyone is so surprisingly open to the idea of listening to classical music. The reason I listen to classical music is because it's beautiful and the instruments have pleasant sounds compared to modern bad sounding instruments like steel stringed acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drum set, saxophone.
It's funny when people say "you don't even undersand classical music you just listen to it because you want to present yourself as intellectual/sophisticated/whatever".
Well, I have never listened to any music because I understood it. I used to listen to different genres when I was a kid and I never understood harmony or modulations or anything about those musics, I didn't even know of such concepts. And today I don't understand anything about classical music when I'm listening to it. I just listen to it because I like it. I mean, yes, I do play guitar and know quite a lot about harmony and modulations and other theory but when I listen to classical music I don't pay any attention to such things firstly because I'm listening to music, not theory, and secondly because I can't, just by listening to a piece, understand which chords and passing tones and whatever are used.

Personally I prefer classical music over anything but for me drawing is also an exercise in concentration. Any kind of music will equally distract me since music has the power of emotional evocation which makes me spend mental power to process judge and appreciate what I am hearing
