This is an extremely limited and counterintuitive way to draw. Academics like to peddle the notion that they're the true heirs to the "tradition," with no evidence to back that up. Only practice this way if your imagination doesn't go beyond pencil portraits on sepia toned paper and Best of Mozart CDs.

People go to art school primarily to learn technique and not to fellate you for your individual creativity
