I don't know if It Is just me but a shitton of series from the 80s have a "western" feel to them regarding mood, plots and even character design, more so in manga than anime. I recently watched SPT Layzner and I was thinking that if you remove the mecha element from It, It isn't that different from a traditional sci-fi novel at all.

I'd also like to mention japanese game series like Sonic, Metroid and F-Zero.

No. Look at old videos of people on youtube in the 80s and 90s and notice their fashion. High school kids back then looked more adult than they do now. Had nothing to do with east vs west comparisons.

I don't know if I'm just biased but it seems very one sided in my opinion.
Anime that take inspiration from western cartoon are great, whereas western cartoons that take inspiration from anime are always stiff and rigid. Avatar and many capeshit cartoons are so obsessed with keeping on model and prioritizing consistent visuals over interesting visuals that it just becomes boring to watch.
