How do you do construction when you draw? Share an example of how you build your characters or post tips, tutorials etc. What do you do when you have an element that's really hard to draw and you just can't seem to make it no matter how hard you try?

You imagine the image first then use construction to help place the elements in the correct place. If you have aphantasia you can't do this and should probably give up

i have such a huge problem in part 1 to part 2. I draw my initial construction lines to set up the pose/gesture and think the sizes are roughly right and I'm ready to move on to mapping it out in phase 2 just to find that my sizes were way off the mark. I've gotten a little better at it because I've put my nose to the grindstone studying anatomy and doing exclusively steps one and two but more often than not my phase 1 will always be wildly under sized and I send a lot of art 2 correcting the sizes of everything

You're referring to the op pic? As for your problems I think doing a lot quick gestures based on references would help you with that. Download some 20+ files of various poses and then make a slideshow from them that takes 2-5 minutes to go to the next image and draw them all.

yeah I didn't know how best to split up ops pic but I figured just calling them 1-4 would be easiest to understand. I just meant my problem is between that loose construction/gesture stick figure and the where you're setting the foundation to build detail on. My sizes from one to the other just do not match even though I understand the anatomy. It's why I'm able to fix it and have no trouble in the other steps

I'm going to try this out. Just grind out a bunch of gestures till I get the sizes right instinctively

remember to not mindlessly grind. when you get something poorly, analyse what's wrong with it and try again. All too many anons just mindlessly grind and expect results.
