Has anyone had any experience applying and living in art residencies? I've been able to financially depend on my art, but since I don't go to an office and all my friends are scattered across the world, I live in total isolation. How do you find a place to live with like minded people?

Artists are the most intolerable company to another artist, you'd be insane to purposefully cut off your genuine connections outside of the field. Maybe you'd enjoy the constant whinging if you're going into fine arts. But if you're planning to just do illustration, you'd go loony.

I do animation, fell for the art school meme, and met a lot of online artists through social media so I know I get along well with them. I just mean where do independent artists go to socialize with a community? I want to interact with people who have similar interests.

i'm at university and i love the people i met there. i like my old friends a lot but it's different from the connections i made there. with my old friends it wasnt possible to do all the things i wanted and the people from university in a lot of ways they fit a lot better to who i am. it's also nice to be in a situation where personal and work related stuff intermingles. this is not to say that there never was any drama. but other people generally are always complicated, wether it's art students or other people.

i did not do a residency yet, but i would recommend it for the experience alone. i will def. do one sooner or later.

Im not sure what one is but I was just thinking the other day if there's somewhere a bit like a studio flat, but in a shared office space, even just a cubicle would suit me, where I can work at a desk and sleep on the floor, make the odd meal on a portable stove. That's all I want from life, and I can't yet afford an apartment to myself and house shares sound booky to me. In the UK btw. Is there such a thing? I dont even know what to search for and only found multiple offices to rent but I don't think you can sleep in them

I've only met 1 artist at school that I didnt like and they had mental problems. Most people are chill, you sound like a doomer. You ever think that maybe other artists were not friendly to you because of how you treated them first?
