I couldn't have cared less about famous artists and in my experience nobody else did either. You needed to be a deviantart regular to even give a shit. If art was cool you used it in your myspace page and didn't think twice about who made it. It's a recent phenomenon to worry about the creator because tumblr and twitter started whining about reposts and credit. And modern social media has integrated artists and non-artists.
I can picture a bunch of art I remember being popular, but I don't have a name to attach to any of them.
Modern internet artists are so spoiled.
